CASE is a non-profit organisation that was formed to assist Australian community organisations in making better use of information technology. We accomplish this through education, advocacy and technical support relevant to the specific needs of the community services sector.

Members of CASE benefit from a cooperative approach to: 

  •   providing advocacy regarding IT issues
  •   developing and managing member IT services
  •   addressing IT training needs of the community sector
  •   providing training and employment opportunities
  •   building social capital through supporting the community sector
  •   operating as a cooperative to empower members.

Did you know that the policies for  the use of Australian domain names are reviewed yearly by the Aust Domain Name Administrator?

CASE President Darrell Burkey has volunteered his time to represent the community sector on the 2010 Names Policy Panel.

The panel will seek public feedback and provide recommendations to the board of auDA.

 

 
Sector Forum

The Mental Health Foundation ACT and Mental Health Community Coalition ACT hosted the sector development forum IT and Electronic Communication today at the New Griffin Centre in the ACT.

The forum covered topics such as future trends, email and general information sharing, electronic records, data sharing and IT Support. CASE President Darrell Burkey made the presentation Managing IT Support (pdf 1.0Mb) outlining the challenges that the non-profit sector have in obtaining appropriate IT support.

 
Security Certification

computer securityCASE President Darrell Burkey recently received certification as one of Australia's newest GIAC certified trained computer security experts.

The Global Information Assurance Certification was founded in 1999 to validate the skills of information security professionals. The purpose of GIAC is to provide assurance that a certified individual has the knowledge and skills necessary for a practitioner in key areas of computer, information and software security.

CASE in The Chronicle

 A few weeks ago we met with Katina Curtis from the The Chronicle, a local Canberra newspaper, to discuss some ongoing difficulties we've experienced here in the ACT community service sector. We had a good talk and are pleased to announce that an article has been run in the April 20th edition of the paper. EleNo censorshipctronic Frontiers Australia today announced that over 500 web Australian sites will be “blacked out” on Australia day in protest against the Rudd government’s mandatory Internet filtering plan. Included among them are the Australian Greens, an Internet service provider, media outlets, and hundreds of other Australian businesses and organisations.
