A Cooperative Approach to Shared IT Services.

A workshop presented by CASE  will be held on Tuesday 5 August 2008 from 10.00am - 12.00pm at ACTCOSS.

The overall  goal of this workshop is to ensure participants receive practical information that can be used immediately to enhance their computer network infrastructure and information systems.

The role of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and how it can be used to implement robust, secure and affordable IT systems will be discussed in a non-technical manner.

CASE President, Darrell Burkey, will be one of the presenters at the Connecting Up 2008 Conference in Brisbane on 19-20 May.

His presentation Joomla! -Take control of your online publishing with CMS (310k pdf),  will examine the pros and cons of using content management systems, demonstrating what works well and what issues exist with using CMS to create your organisation's online presence.

On day two of the conference Darrell will also present Dog, Tail, Wag - Information Technology and Non-Profit Organisations (1Mb pdf file) to demonstrate strategies organisations have used to implement robust and reliable network services.

On 12-13 April CASE President Darrell and programmer Dane Lipscombe attended a forum for VISE coordinators from all over the country and the VISE Management Committee. The forum was held to look at the structure that will be required to keep VISE operating and ensure sustainability.

Darrell and Dane were there to launch the latest revision of the Online Volunteer Management System (OVMS) which will have a different appearance and many additional features .

Over the years VISE has found that the use of this system to manage their volunteer tutors has made the difference between being able to meet the needs of outback families or not.

Senator Kate Lundy and ANU Adjunct Senior Lecturer Tom Worthington will co-chair 'Foundations of Open: Technology and Digital Knowledge' at a local 2020 summit in Canberra, ACT Thursday 3rd April 2008 at the Australian National University.

CASE President, Darrell Burkey, will present 'A CASE Study in Community' to demonstrate how effective open technology can be in creating and supporting community development initiatives. He will outline the partnership between CASE and member organisations Volunteers for Isolated Students Education (VISE) and the National Women's Justice Coalition in providing online venues for their members.

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new service designed to provide full featured mailing lists to member organisations.

CommunityLists was established with the generous support of the auDA Foudation and is available to members at no cost.

The CommunityLists project is based on the very popular open source mailing list software 'Mailman'. The software has been optimised for privacy and includes online web based archives that are fully indexed.
